WHAT DETERMINES THE HAIR SIZE

Hair is a naturally happening phenomenon of human body. There are numerous hair follicles that cover the most of the body. It happens on the entire body except on lips, palms and soles. On eyes hair does not grow except for the eyelashes. The hair on the head is more inclined to growth than the eyelashes. The growth of hair goes through three specific phases.  One part of the hair can be in one phase and the other can be in a different one. The three phases that determine hair growth are:

·        1.  Anagen

·         2.  Catagen

·         3. Telogen

Every strand of hair is at a different development level. If the process finishes, it restarts and new hair  (hair care) is generated. Every month hair grows from 1.25 centimeters to 0.5 inches. The phase anagen of hair growth is known for its hair growth. Connective tissues and capillary loops form a large structure under the hair where anagen begins. This process may take two to six years. If hair strands stay longer in anagen phase they will grow more. New hair fibres are produced by a process in which cells of papilla divide. Hair Follicle burns to nurture the new strand of hair. All the time each person has 85% of his hair in the phase of anagen.

Anagen phase is followed by the Catagen phase. Catagen is also known as transitional phase. Catagen phase determines that the hair growth phase has come to an end. This gives hair follicle the opportunity to renew itself. This process takes from two to three weeks. Hair length does not increase doing this phase however follicle pushes the hair shaft upward which gives growth to terminal fibres.
Telogen phase is considered as the resting phase. The follicle is inactive in this stage. This happens for one to four months.

Each person has about 15% of his hair inactive during any given period. Follicle is lined with epidermal cells. These cells grow and concentrate around the base. Thus the natural purpose of the hair is preserved. People experience hair loss which is called shedding. Hair falls during shampooing one’s hair. People also find their fallen hair on clothes. Hair also appears in combs and brushes.

After telogen phase comes to an end anagen phase begins once more. Hair stays in telogen phase until it does not enter anagen phase. Once hair growth enters anagen stage, new hair is generated again.
